FIRST OF ALL, I THINK THERE IS ONLY ONE WAY TO START THIS INTERVIEW SINCE PEOPLE HERE, PROBABLY DON`T KNOW MANY THINGS ABOUT NOISE RATCHET. SO, WHEN, WHO, HOW AND WHY STARTED THE STORY OF NOISE RATCHET?
Jon: Noise Ratchet started about three years ago with a desire to make music that we loved.
ON THE LEAFLET WHICH YOUR RECORD LABEL, THE MILITIA GROUP PRINTED, THERE WAS WRITTEN "Emotional and melodic, these boys prove themselves like seasoned veterans of the rock scene. Stunning musicianship and mature songwriting make them a band to watch out for!". AND I WOULD AGREE WITH THAT. BUT YOU GUYS SEEM AS A REALLY YOUNG BAND. WHERE DOES COME ALL THIS MUSICAL EXPERIENCE FROM?
J: We have all been in bands for years. I (Jon ) am only 18 but the ages go as high as 26. We all started young and maybe that makes us kinda veterans (?).
CRITICS WOULD DESCRIBE YOUR MUSIC AS A "EMO/POP PUNK" BAND, BUT I THINK IT WOULD NOT BE CONVENIENT FOR SUCH A COMPLEX MUSIC WITH ORCHESTRATED GUITARS, ALWAYS WITH SO MANY DIFFERENT MELODIC PARTS AND NICE POP-INFLUENCED SINGING. HOW DO YOU SEE YOUR MUSIC AND DOES IT FIT IN ANY USUAL MUSICAL GENRES?
J: We try to classify as little as possible. If people ask we just say we are a rock band. Labels are bad.
THERE ARE COMPARISONS WITH BANDS LIKE SENSEFIELD, JIMMY EAT WORLD OR, I WOULD SAY FALLING FORWARD, RIVAL SCHOOLS…DO YOU THINK YOU ARE ABLE TO MAKE YOUR OWN SOUND AND SOME DAY BE A BAND WITH WHOM CRITICS ARE GOING TO COMPARE NEW, YOUNG BANDS?
J: It is hard to do something fresh and so many bands try so hard to be original but I think we just focus more on being goo at what we do and we write the music that we feel.
SINCE WE ARE TALKING OF COMPARISONS, CAN YOU TELL ME WHAT BANDS WOULD YOU LIKE TO PLAY LIVE WITH AT ANY TIME AND ARE THEY YOUR BIGGEST INFLUENCES AT THE SAME TIME?
J: I love U2, KENT, SWITCHFOOT, and many others from all corners of the music world. We have been able to tour with some great bands like JULIANA THEORY, PIEBALD, THE KICK, SWITCHFOOT, HOT ROD CIRCUIT, COOL HAND LUKE and DASHBOARD CONFESSIONAL. There are so many bands I would like to tour with.
LET`S GO TO TALK ABOUT YOUR ALBUM. TILL WE HAVE FACES SEEMS AS AN ORGANIC ALBUM, ALMOST LIKE YOU DID IT LIVE. WHAT I LIKED MOST IS THE FACT THAT SOMETIMES YOU DON`T FIT IN USUAL CONCEPT OF SONG MAKING "FIRST PART-CHORUS-SECOND PART-BREAK OR SOLO-AGAIN CHORUS". FOR ME IT SOUNDS LIKE ONE VERY GOOD SONG WITH SO MANY CHANGES AND UNUSUAL BREAKS THAT YOU MUST LISTEN FROM BEGINNING TO AN END. I NOTICED THAT YOU DIDN`T USE ADDITIONAL SOUNDS, EFFECTS. BUT SOUND IS FULL, LIKE IT WAS MADE TO SOUND THE SAME WAY LIVE. TELL US MORE OF HOW QUICKLY THIS ALBUM CAME TOGETHER?
J: You tottally have it. NOISE RATCHET is a live band. That is where we feel the most comfortable. Till we have faces was recorded in a beautiful studio but there was not a lot of production alotted. So the album came out very organic as you say. I definitely feel that it is solid from front to back. We tried to avoid filler at all costs. Next time we will do a little more production though.
HOW DOES THE TOUR GO ON? ARE YOU SATISFIED WITH THE WAY AUDIENCE RECEIVE YOUR MUSIC?
J: People always receive us very well we just have to work on getting more people out to see us. We have been blessed with some good tours lately and future looks bright.
SINCE THAT AT THE MOMENT ALL THE BANDS WITH WHOM CRITICS COMPARED YOU ARE RELEASING FOR SOME BIGGER RECORD COMPANIES, DO YOU THINK THERE IS ENOUGH SPACE FOR NOISE RATCHET TOO IN THE WORLD OF BIG BUSINESS?
J: We have no desire to paly something that we don`t believe in so if someone wants to change us this will not happen, but if someone will help us get our music to more people and help us build career out of what we love to do we are all for it.
DO YOU KNOW ANYHTING ABOUT MUSICAL SCENE IN MY COUNTRY, SERBIA? ABD, ARE THERE ANY CHANCES TO SEE YOU ROCKING HERE SOME DAY?
J: I have never until now heard of a Serbian music scene. But it excites me that there is one and we would love to come there one day.
ANY CLOSING WORDS?
J: Thank you so much for playing us and I hope your scene flourishes over there. Peace and God bless.
